FAQ
We have been around since 1995. We were actually two seperate groups then that played together. We became one group in 1998.
We originally began in Multiplayer Battletech: Solaris, which was a game made by Kesmai Studios. Kesmai was known for their online games, and had an alliance with Mythic at one time, creating what used to be Gamestorm.com. We went on to the next generation of the same game, Multiplayer Battletech: 3025. After it's death in 2001, we moved to Dark Age of Camelot, playing on the Igraine server for Hibernia. We played some Mechwarrior leagues, and also had a brief stint in Lineage 2 on the Kain server. However, none of us found this game to our liking. Eventually we found our way to World of Warcraft, quickly forming on day 1 on the Sargeras server for Alliance. We then formed on Warhammer Online, playing for Order on the Badlands server. Though our guild was successful, the game was not, and we left due to lack of endgame content. We now are here for Aion, eagerly awaiting some good PvP (hopefully).
We get this one fairly often, so I thought I would put it in here. We originated in Battletech, which was a miltary style kind of game. Each of the factions had regiments, which were predesignated according to the history and novels developed for Battletech before the game even existed. So, we were given the '9th Sword of the Dragon' regiment. After the death of Battletech, we decided to keep our name, but we dropped the '9th' part so it made a little more sense.
We have decided to fight for Elyos.
We are playing on the Yustiel server for Release.
I don't like to categorize Sword of the Dragon. We are neither casual or elitist, and yet, we are both. Real life comes first, and as such, we do not expect you to treat a game like a job. We come from a different era and a different type of game than most guilds. However, we will always push ourselves to the limit. You are expected to push your character to be the best it possibly can be. Sometimes we like to relax, but we like to do things our way. We believe in honor and integrity, but if someone pushes us we will respond ten fold. We're the type of people that like to challenge ourselves, there is no "can't" here. If someone says it takes 40 people for a certain obstacle, we try it with 30 or 20. We push ourselves to our limits. We do not follow other guilds, we make our own path. This is Sword of the Dragon.
We have a Charter, and we do our best to follow it. No one is perfect, mistakes happen, but we work to correct them. After 14+ years we've seen more drama than anyone, but here we stand, because we correct mistakes, not run from them. In order to know if you are right for our guild, there are a few things to ask yourself:
- Do you enjoy pushing yourself to your limits, doing what others say is impossible?
- Do you believe in honor and integrity, and always treating fellow players with respect, even if they are your enemies?
- Do you believe in loyalty, and staying with the guild not just through the good, but also the bad?
- Do you believe that improvement of the guild comes first, not loot whoring for yourself?
- Do you believe in sharing knowledge with your guild mates, not hording information for personal gain?
- Do you believe in being in the guild for what it is, not being in search of higher guild rank and power?
- Do you believe in trying something on your own, not begging for help before you even attempt it yourself?
- Do you believe that you represent the guild, and you try to watch your actions so as not to hurt the guild's reputation?
If you answered Yes to all of these questions, Sword of the Dragon may be the guild for you.
For the most part, we treat our guild like a family. Every member here has a voice, and everyone has a say in any major guild changes. No major changes will occur without you knowing about it, unless you don't read the forums or pay attention. The Officers are there to help run the guild, keep everyone in line help to make sure things run smoothly and that everyone is having fun. Essentially the Officers are the people willing to go above and beyond to help out. But we listen to what members think just as much as any officer.
We have no time requirement, persay. The amount of effort you put forth in the game and towards the guild simply affects your place in the guild. If you just log on the game, don't talk much, don't participate in activities or the forums or get on voice chat, you will be rather low on the totem pole. But if you enjoy organizing groups to help guildies, are active on game and on the forums, you will quickly rise. It all depends on what you want out of the guild. The point is, though everyone has a voice in the guild, it's hard for everyone to have an equal voice. If one member is active, participates in events and is constantly helping members, where as another member doesn't do squat, well, it is sometimes difficult to give the two equal weight. With Aion having a limited number of guild members, we may, in the future, have to set sort sort of standard. However, we would not go that route unless needed.
Yes, we use Ventrilo. It is not mandatory to be on our chat server all the time, though it doesn't hurt to be on it frequently. However, there will be times when we have an event that makes it mandatory for that specific event. You don't have to talk, or even have a mic, just be on to listen. Some guild members may also expect you to get on to group up with them as well. It is highly recommended you have Ventrilo, or participating in guild events will be difficult for you.
Well if you have not yet done so, I recommend grouping with our members to see how well you mesh. I also recommend posting on our forums, and keeping in track with members on game as you get to know them. If you are confident you wish to join, post your Application on the forum. If you still have questions, feel free to contact Brewer in game, or any Officer.
