Interesting thing is, I went back last night to that same fort. Both outter doors were open, and the Fort lord was gone. I'm thinking that he only shows up when the fort is vulnerable for attack, and Elyos/Asmodian forts don't bother closing their gates while the keep can not be taken. Will need to look into that further.
